This fine conversion of Data East's 1984 arcade game is not a strict interpretation of the original but rather takes its concept of one-on-one fighting and sets it in a variety of outdoor environments. Though a judge is present the matches feel less like formal karate matches and more like spontaneous fights. The graphics and sound effects are simple but do a good job at matching the feel of the arcade version. A highlight is the announcer who crisply pronounces two words: begin and point.
